Junk & Disorderly.
RESIST BEING FORCED INTO CONFORMITY
“Procrustean beds everywhere. I will not be amputated again. I will not be stretched.”
In Greek myth, Procrustes was an innkeeper just outside Athens. There he kept an iron bed which he told all guests would “fit them perfectly.” At once he would go to work on unsuspecting guests. If they were too short, he would stretch them. If too tall, he would amputate them. And if they happened to fit the bed perfectly…well he actually had two iron beds at the inn, so no one would ever fit perfectly. Eventually Theseus fit Procrustes to his own bed ending this terror.
In modern usage, the term Procrustean bed describes situations where conformity to arbitrary standards is forced.
The Procrustean beds flow not only from society in general, but also from those closest to you: your lovers, your parents, your friends, and sometimes even your enemies. Be true to yourself and what you want out of life. Compromise, but only judiciously.
